Spring Snow Goose Clothing

While Dean Tlougan, owner of Premier Flight Guides, may be able to get away with jeans and a sweatshirt in the blind (below), you should plan on bringing your quality waterfowl gear for snow goose hunting. A typical day of spring snow goose hunting in South Dakota includes plenty of time served preparing the blinds before dawn.

We suggest dressing in high-performance layers so that you can adjust to the temperature as the sun comes up. The temperature will be at or below freezing before dawn but it often heats up into the 40s-50s by mid-day. Bring it all and prepare for anything.

What to wear:

  • Most of our hunts will be from layout blinds or A-Frame/Panel blinds where white clothing is not needed.
  • A good-quality waterfowl coat in white or field camo.
  • Warm hunting pants. You will hunt from layout blinds but your legs can get plenty cold on the ground.
  • Warm, waterproof boots (the frosted fields turn to mud by mid-morning)
  • A good LED headlamp with extra batteries .
