Decoy spreads vary depending on the time of year. While we are hunting Early season honkers, we often use fewer decoys. Too large of spreads wouldn't be realistic because a lot of migrating birds have not arrived yet. As the migrating birds start showing up we will bump up our spreads accordingly.
We use a lot of Bigfoot decoys. They are very durable and with hauling decoys often a higher priced decoy would be a waste of money. Bottom line - commercial operations are hard on equipment so we choose the decoy that looks good and can stand up to our demands.
Another aspect of late season hunting when we're working with huge spreads, we like to use black and white shadows. They are like a silhouette decoy but we stick with just black and white color. Great attraction for migrating flocks and they are easy to put out 500 of these shadows with your full body decoys is a killer combination.
